On February 12, 2013, we had the honor to join others at the DAR Mary Tyler Chapter George Washington Student Award Tea. Thirteen high schools picked one senior to represent their school. They were picked by their school's committee. DAR= Daughters of the American Revolution asked that the school pick a senior who is dependable, a servant, shows leadership, and patriotic. How honoring that Chapel Hill High School nominated Evan for this award. At the tea, a representative introduced each candidate. One of the candidate would be ultimately chosen to represent East Texas area and then compete for the good citizen award at the state level. Additionally, that one candidate would receive a $500 scholarship to be sent to their college. To our humble surprise, Evan Joseph Merritt was announced. Grandma Amy, Mrs. Palmer (his high school counselor), and I had no idea that Evan would win. Their were 13 wonderful seniors standing up front. Evan humbly received the honor, and we could not be prouder that Chapel Hill and DAR felt that Evan fit the description of a good citizen.

No surprise there either! That is an honor indeed, and they have great taste!
